Information Overload – What it means for Security
In this day and age we are presented with so much data and information. Prioritising what we need to read and action is time consuming and cumbersome.
Security systems collect vast amounts of information and the question is how do we make this information valuable? We can’t spend our days watching live video or reading the event logs generated from our access control systems so how do we know what needs prioritising for action versus a simple data log that may not need immediate action.
The answer lies in filtering our data. Just like everything else – some things are flagged as important and need to be actioned straight away, and others can filter through to the junk box. The trick is working out what filters to use and what key information helps make your job easier.
Identifying these key filters requires a collaborative effort from all stakeholders, and you may find that information which is important to one person may not be to another. For example the IT Manager may want a weekly report on those entering the Comms Room, while the Security Manager may require immediate video footage delivered to their inbox at the time of alarm activation.
Another important consideration when you need to generate these Customised Reports is data storage. How much event history data will your system hold? Is it enough to provide the reports you need? What if you need to go back a couple of months for review? Will the information still be available?
We can add value to your security system with filtered reporting, it will save you time, allowing you to communicate with all relevant stakeholders quicker whilst at the same time reducing risk to the organisation.
NeXT managed service offering is the easiest way to achieve this and we can offer added benefits such as system backups, disaster recovery and remote programming.
